What we did in the lesson

Today during the lesson we talked about our car and airway adverts. I chose BMW I. for my car advert and British Airways for my airway advert. After that, we started creating our media studies twitter account and had a look at previous pupil's GCSE work with the teacher's notes.
Those work really helped me with understanding what we're supposed to do during our GCSE course, it was also very interesting looking at what other people have written, so I would know what I should write when it comes to me.

Car and Airline Advert Analysis

BMW advert:

What I can see is the BMW driving along the road. The background behind the car is filled with skyscrapers and lights, which gives the audience a feeling of a busy city life. You can hear a slow and calm piece of music, which suggests a kind of “calm elegance” that is controlled by the car even in a noisy and busy city.

You keep on getting shots of every detail of the city and car, which makes me feel that the car fits in very well with the city. At around 0:25 the video starts to move very fast which makes you feel like you’re really in the video with the car travelling at top speed. As the music speeds up, the car slows down and gives more shots of little details of the city.
The focus of this advert is on how the car fits in with the city, which matches with the slogan: Born Electric.

British Airways advert:

In the first few seconds you could see the airplane getting ready and people getting on board. Staff helping people putting their bags up and smiling, which makes people think they have very good service. Then you could see the airplane leaving the airport and going into the city just like a normal car. Passing houses, going on streets and even waiting for the traffic lights.

As the plane passes through all the famous areas (Big Ben, London Eye etc.), you could see the passengers smiling like they are having a good time. Staff giving children England flags and helping them to paint their faces as the airplane stops at the Olympic Stadium. The passengers went inside while a sentence appeared: Don’t Fly, Support Team GB.
I think what this advert wants people to think is that British Airways is everywhere, and want people to believe that they are very friendly and helpful. The focus is all around London: markets, country areas, the city, famous areas, and the Olympics. This advert is for people from all around the world to get to know London and support the London 2012 Olympics.

Lucozade and Lara Croft

Lara Croft is a fictional character and the main character of a video game series Tomb Raider. She is presented as a beautiful, intelligent, and athletic adventuress who ventures into ancient, hazardous tombs and ruins around the world.

Lara Croft began this huge sponsorship  with Lucozade in 1998, in fact, Lucozade was the biggest sponsorship that Lara Croft has had in her whole "career".

Lucozade chose Lara Croft as it's advert character is because Lara Croft is a no-nonsense, high energy character who could always extricate herself from tricky situations.

Lucozade Research

Lucozade is a brand of energy drinks. “It is the UK's leading sports drink and plays a valued role in the active lifestyles of hundreds of thousands of people. Whether on the field, in the gym or on the track Lucozade Sport aims to deliver the right fuel before, during and after exercise.”

This is their homepage:

Here are some adverts:

Here is some information:

William Owen, a chemist from Douglas, Cork, who experimented for several years to provide a source of energy for those who were sick with common illnesses, like the common colds or influenza. It became available throughout Ireland for use in hospitals under the name Glucozade. This was changed to Lucozade in 1929.
The product was sold in a glass bottle with a cellophane wrap until 1983, then in 1984, the company changed Lucozade into an energy drink. The effect was unbelievable: the UK sales of this drink tripled to almost $115 million.

There are lots of flavors:
Original
Orange
Cherry
Apple
Lemon
Blackcurrant
Tropical
Mixed Berries
Black Edition Cola
Caribbean Crush (Tropical fruit & Coconut)

Lucozade is a dynamic brand. Like one of its slogan, "Faster, stronger, and longer", which makes people feel energetic after drinking this.
It is healthier than other drinks, cheaper than other drinks, therefore they have less competitors on the market.

First Media Lesson

Today I have started my blog for my Media lessons. This lesson we have watched the diet coke advert by Duffy and the zero coke advert featuring James Bond.

We have been learning advertising, and this year we will be going to make an advert ourselves.

I hope I can achieve good grades this year on Media Studies.
